• List Of Names For Receivables Finance

Names used for receivables finance and invoice financing.

Receivables finance goes by a lot of different names. Therefore, I thought it would be interesting to start a list of all the different labels that are used to describe those services. I have included generic names and proprietary names used by particular providers.

List Of Names For Receivables Finance

This is the list of names for receivables finance so far (finance and financing are interchangeable throughout the rest of the list):

    • Receivables finance or receivables financing (or accounts receivable finance) - the general umbrella term for financing against the debtor book of a business.

    • Factoring - normally means that there is a collections service provided, in addition to the funding. It can be called "debt factoring" or "payment factoring".

    • Recourse factoring (can also be called Domestic Factoring).

    • Non-recourse factoring - used where there is credit protection included.

    • Export factoring - factoring for debts to customers based overseas.

    • Import factoring - factoring in respect of debts to customers based in the UK where the supplier is overseas.

    • Selective factoring - factoring for selected invoices, or debtors (also called selective debtor finance/factoring).

    • Spot factoring - another name for selective factoring.

    • Confidential factoring (also called white label factoring) - the credit control service is provided under the customer's name and brand.

    • Reverse factoring - also called Supply Chain Finance, where the facility is arranged by a large supplier for their customers.

    • Invoice finance - another word for receivables finance that technically excludes financing applications for payment used within the construction sector.

    • Construction finance - funding for the construction sector against invoices or applications for payment.

    • Selective invoice finance.

    • Invoice discounting - funding against invoices without the credit control service included with factoring.

    • Confidential invoice discounting (CID) - the supplier continues their own credit control activity and the debtors are unaware of the facility as there are no assignment clauses on invoices.

    • Disclosed invoice discounting - CID with assignment clauses on invoices.

    • Bulk invoice discounting - ID where the invoices are not individually processed to a shadow ledger. Total values are maintained instead.

    • Selective invoice discounting - ID for selected invoices.

    • CHOCS or CHOCCs (Customer Handles Own Collections).

    • IDeal - an invoice discounting service, including full sales ledger upload provided by Close Brothers Invoice Finance.
